10th of September

aguada-september (3)aguada-september (1) Belize celebrated the 216 Battle of St. George’s Caye Day on the 10th of September. Keeping in line with the theme of the battle, the Aguada staff decided to jump on board and have a little fun during the annual San Ignacio/Santa Elena parade and also the Zone 10 Neighborhood Watch parade.

Some of the staff along with their children worked hard on a Pirate theme depicting the Pirates of Spain that came to fight against our Baymen for the territory which we know now as Belize.

aguada-september (2)The float was well received by the community and they were able to enjoy the many treats and school supplies that we shared with the kids along the parade route.

Another Aguada venture of giving back to our community. Hip Hip Hooray!!

Hibiscus Flower

Who would have known the many uses of the Hibiscus Flower?

Hibiscus Flower BelizeWhen we started landscaping around The Aguada we recalled a conversation we had with an iguana enthusiast who shared with us that iguanas found the red hibiscus as a delicacy. Keeping that in mind, we chose to do a hedge fence out of various types of hibiscus. However, it wasn’t until years later that we realized the various wonderful uses of the hibiscus flower.

  • Cold treatments
  • Immunity
  • Reduces high blood pressure and stress levels
  • Promotes a healthy heart
  • Contains a huge number of antioxidants which helps to fight against cell-damaging free radicals
  • An aid and cure for cough, hair loss and hair graying. For hair treatment, get hibiscus oil and rub it in hair. There are also hibiscus shampoos and conditioners.
  • Helps maintain healthy body temperatures
  • Boosts the effectiveness of vitamin C absorption
  • Promotes cardiac and nervous system health
  • Traditional cure for nervous restlessness and difficulty sleeping
  • Aids in weight control challenges
  • Helps support memory and concentration
  • Supports and boosts the immune system.

You probably won’t look at a hibiscus as just another flower again. :D We won’t either! Try it if you have any of the problems above. They are very common in Belize.

Ruta Maya Belize 2012!

The Aguada Hotel was the base for LOVE FM’s Live Stream of the Annual La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge. The LOVE FM crew enjoyed our famous Secret Blend Coffee while broadcasting information about the race. This was the first year that they were able to stream live.

Belize’s Independence 2011!

The Staff of The Aguada Hotel along with their families entered the San Ignacio/Santa Elena Independence Day parade. After hours of volunteer work and lots of fun, we paraded the streets of the twin towns in our Belizean Mardi Gras theme float. With over 1,000 beads, 500 Popsicles and hundreds of bags of sweets, the onlookers all shared in some of The Aguada fun. It’s not only a fun time for the staff but a way to show appreciation to those in our towns for their ongoing support. The parade ended with a bang when we were given 2nd place award for the best float among the 39 entries. Looking forward to September 2012.
